5 ways to pray for the world

During the summer, our church has a week where we give the worship bands a rest and instead, a team of people put together a creative worship experience. This year they used the theme of ‘The Five Senses’ to pray and worship. Taking inspiration from this, how can we pray for the world

Equipment: A scrabble board & bible.

There are two ways you can do this. The first is to make words that describe God, His names and characteristics. As you do this, pray for the world to know God in these ways.

Alternatively, you could put country names onto the board and pray for them.

Equipment: Computer & headphones (if required). Two youtube videos. A world map. Post it notes

As you look over the world map, listen to this video of The Lord’s Prayer in different languages. If you are drawn to a particular country then pray for it and write down some of your prayers on post it notes so you can stick them to the map.

Now listening to Our Father ask God to speak to you about countries. If you find music too distracting then ask him in silence to speak to you and put prayers on your heart.

Equipment: Plain Fairy Cakes, Butter Cream or Icing Sugar, Teaspoons, Mini Smarties or Chocolate Drops.  Bible (Galatians 5:22

I love this one because it contains cakes! Take a fairy cake and dig out a hole in the center with the teaspoon (you still want the bottom on your cake, so not too far!) Take a chocolate and pop it in the centre. This is your seed!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Pray for the seeds of the Kingdom of God to grow in different parts of the world. Pop the spooned out cake back on top of your ‘seed’. Now, you can either use colored icing pens to make the flag of the country you are praying for on top of the cake or, just cover it in butter icing as pray for the seed to grow!

Equipment: Playdough

First, roll the playdough into a ball, make it as smooth as you can. This represents the whole world. Pray for the world and thank God that He holds it in his hands. Make a dip at the top and fashion your ball to a heart shape. Pray that the world would know God’s love and love each other more. Turn your heart to a fish, asking God to save many people, you can choose a specific country if you like.

Equipment: Fresh bread & Grape Juice. Bible (John 3:16-17)

Take communion together. Take in the smell of the bread and the grape juice. Jesus says we are to remember him with communion. Read John 3:16-17: Jesus came for the whole world! Use this truth to lead your prayers for the world as you take communion together
