Redeemed

The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body, God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.

I hate not knowing where I stand with people. It is usually when I am my most insecure, and it completely changes my personality. I can be a bubbly, chatty extrovert; but the moment I am not sure where I stand with someone, I become shy, withheld and anxious.

When I was a teenager, I ‘became a Christian’ once or twice a year for at least four years. This was even after I was baptized and even after my mum had a chat with me about what it meant to be saved. I kept doing it because I was scared I’d done something wrong (or even knew I’d done something wrong)  and I thought somehow it would disable my salvation. I didn’t know where I stood with God. It made me shy, withheld and anxious. I guess I had a messed up understanding of who Jesus was. Eventually, He sat me down and had a chat with me! He did this at a prayer evening, where a woman just walked up to me and said “Jesus says, you have been made clean and you are clean” and then walked off!

My Church has been going through a preaching series based on this song from Newday:

We’ve been looking at Jesus through the lens of the names: Prophet, Priest, King, Shepherd, Friend, Saviour. As we looked a the name Priest, we were led to Hebrews 10:11

“Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”

He sat down

The design and object of the incarnation and sacrifice of Christ was to condemn sin, to have it executed and destroyed; not to tolerate it as some think, or to render it subservient to the purposes of his grace, as others; but to annihilate its power, guilt, and being in the soul of a believer. – Adam Clarke’s Bible Commentary

The priests didn’t ‘sit down’ because they were continually having to make sacrifices for our sins. The law could not redeem us or sanctify us. It couldn’t get rid of sin once and for all. BUT JESUS sat down because His sacrifice was perfect. We, because of this are made holy

We are the redeemed, made holy, once and for all, through Christ’s sacrifice

Know that you can boldly come into God’s throne room, you don’t have to be shy, withheld or anxious

Tonight if you, like I was, worry about whether God’s salvation to you is somehow going to disappear; spend time asking Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to you that your salvation is once and for all time!

If you want to have a listen to the full preach, here it is now!
